Why CrzySnekLdy?
Our family was driving home from a vacation, and I saw a license plate that read, "snkbit." I commented to my friend, my plate would be snkldy! And then the crazy got added in there, because really, if you aren't a reptile enthusiast, it is somewhat hard to understand why we'd share our home with over a dozen reptiles.
I have been called snake lady or snake girl, which is fine and doesn't bother me at all! Crazy? Well as long as a person can responsibly keep their animals and make sure all of their needs are met (obviously part of being responsible), then they aren't truly crazy. I certainly do understand why most would consider me to be crazy, however!
I feel very lucky to be able to have such unique and beautiful creatures as my pets. I have only been a reptile keeper since October 2010, but my love of scaly things goes back to being obsessed with dinosaurs as a 6-year-old girl, living in Florida, finding anoles and wishing they were baby dinosaurs or catching garter snakes in MN and loving the experience (until I got bit and that did scare me)! Keeping snakes and our other reptiles (bearded dragon, leopard gecko, crested geckos, mountain horned dragon, girdled forest lizard) brings me some of that joy and wonder that I felt as a kid. That is the reason I feel so passionately about teaching people that snake (and other reptiles) are not the monsters they are made out to be.
