Loki ate 3 days ago and he left evidence of that meal on his paper towels, so I had to take him out of his bin to take care of business. As I was holding him, I looked around the living room and saw a Barbie couch. Silliness ensued. We humans got a giggle out of it. All of a sudden he had enough of that and made a run for the tree, but my daughter was there to catch him before Loki could have the last laugh.
This is Loki, my newest snake. He is a black milk snake from Kevin Collison. I had held an adult black milk snake last spring and was very intrigued by this type of snake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lampropeltis_triangulum_gaigeae With one exception, my kingsnakes (milk snakes are a species of kingsnake), are named for a movie/TV character. I had considered Loki (among many other names) before I got him, but hadn't settled on any name. My daughter and husband also suggested it, so I gave it more thought, and the more I thought about it and researched the name, the more it seemed to fit the idea of a solid black snake and so Loki it was. I enjoyed the evenings I spent researching Norse mythology, so that was a bonus! As for the film character, Loki is my favorite in Marvel's Thor/The Avengers/Thor TDW. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki so well, you can't help but like the bad guy. But this is not a Tom Hiddleston blog, now is it? I got Loki on Christmas Eve, and the first thing I noticed about him was how calm he was. He was 21.4 grams before I offered him his first meal (2-3 gram pinkie), and he did eat it later that night, so that's great. As I am with all of my snakes, I am excited to see him grow up. He'll be the only snake of mine who will have such a dramatic change! So far he isn't mischievous and full of tricks, but I haven't had him long enough to tell what his true personality will be. |
